Business | Cebu Pacific to Continue Growth Through 2024

Cebu Pacific (CEB) is confident it will continue its financial and capacity growth in 2024, with systemwide network forecast to exceed 100% of pre-pandemic capacity in the fourth quarter of this year.

CEB flew 4 million domestic passengers in the third quarter, up 5% year on year and already above pre-pandemic levels. CEB grew its international operations steeply, as it flew over 1.3 million passengers for the quarter, a 228% increase year on year. CEB’s international network recovery continued to gain traction, especially with the opening of more North Asian countries such as Japan, Taiwan, and Hong Kong.

CEB generated revenues of P23.3 billion for the third quarter of 2023, 39% higher year-on-year and 23% above the same period in 2019. CEB saw a notable increase in travel demand in the third quarter, attributable to the change in school calendars, which shifted graduation and school breaks from the second quarter to the third quarter.  With this, net income grew to P1.3 billion, a turnaround from last year’s net loss of P2.5 billion as well as the third quarter 2019’s net loss of P384 million.

“Going into the fourth quarter, we remain optimistic as we saw our domestic market share at 55% in October despite challenges on fleet availability. Aside from that, we expect that by the end of the year, our systemwide network will be at 103% of pre-pandemic levels; domestic will continue to exceed pre-pandemic levels, while international is seen to be at about 93%,” said Cebu Pacific CEO Michael Szucs.

“By yearend, we expect to fly to 60 destinations, through over 100 routes and at least 2,700 weekly flights,” he said.

CEB expects its seat capacity to grow between 5 and 8% in 2024 from 2023 levels despite the grounding of a number of aircraft next year due mainly to early inspection of Pratt and Whitney engines that power the A320/321 NEO fleet.

In anticipation of the issues, CEB has already taken a focused approach to manage the situation.

“We continue to explore various opportunities to supplement the fleet and ensure operational resilience, including securing both brand new and used aircraft, as well as exploring aircraft leases,” said Szucs.

The airline has been increasing its fleet through this year, accepting delivery of 19 aircraft in 2023 to take the fleet to 76 aircraft at the end of the year, and further raising the size to 92 in 2024.

CEB will begin inspections from January 2024 across its A320/321 NEO aircraft that are powered by Pratt and Whitney (P&W) engines. This is not a safety issue, and inspection and replacement procedures are set well in advance to ensure the continued operation of the P&W fleet.

Consequentially, CEB expects to have ten (10) aircraft grounded in January, with the number rising through 2024 to 20.

CEB has put in place substantial measures to mitigate any effect on its customers. Flight schedules that are on sale are already adjusted to account for the potential impact. CEB also carries enhanced standby coverage on its fleet and is seriously considering a short-term wet lease from Bul Air, a charter company of Bulgaria Air.

CEB has also introduced improved customer recovery options and policies. It has also expanded and enhanced customer support teams, both on the ground and online, to enhance customer communications and engagements.

Aside from these, CEB expects to receive before the end of 2023 the proposals from suppliers after issuing Request for Proposals (RFP) to both Airbus and Boeing for 100 to 150 narrowbody jets, which represent the largest ever commitment of any airline into the Philippine aviation industry.

“We’ve taken all these initiatives to uphold our commitment to delivering affordable, safe, and dependable flights. While we acknowledge the challenges that we will face in 2024 and possibly even 2025, we remain very optimistic on the long-term economic prospects in the Philippines for our aviation industry, given the plans to privatize NAIA, the development of the Bulacan airport, and further enhancements of regional airports to relieve congestion and increase connectivity,” he said.

Cebu Pacific (PSE: CEB), the Philippines’ leading airline, has strengthened its partnership with the Singapore Tourism Board (STB) to help travelers reimagine the Lion City and visit Singapore.

CEB and STB previously signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) in April 2022 to mark the reopening of Singapore’s borders. With the successes of the past year, both parties today renewed the MOU to intensify their collaboration to promote travel to Singapore, which is one of the top-of-mind destinations for visitors from the Philippines. Key projects in this 2023 MOU will include joint marketing and promotions, and joint business development in the areas of fly-cruise and meetings and incentive corporate groups.

“We are delighted to renew our partnership with Cebu Pacific, which contributed greatly to Singapore’s strong tourism numbers for 2022,” said Ms. Juliana Kua, Assistant Chief Executive for International Group, Singapore Tourism Board (STB). “Philippines is a key market for Singapore, and the attractive promotions from Cebu Pacific will be complemented by STB’s ‘SingapoRewards’ programme, which offers a free experience for every eligible tourist to Singapore.

SingapoRewards[1] is a new programme that will provide international visitors with an opportunity to try one of nearly 40 new or “off-the-beaten-path” experiences in Singapore for free, across the whole of 2023.

CEB currently flies thrice daily between Manila and Singapore, providing passengers easy access to the Lion City, to experience its famous culinary scene, see its scenic spots, engage in thrill-seeking activities, or go shopping.

Passengers from the Visayas may also conveniently reach Singapore through Cebu Pacific’s daily flights from Mactan Cebu International Airport.

CEB will also increase its Singapore flights from Davao up to 4x weekly starting on March 26, 2023.

Travelers from Northern Luzon will also have a new gateway as CEB starts its daily Clark – Singapore flight on April 28, 2023.

Travel | Cebu Pacific Advisory Peak Travel Reminders

After two years of stop-and-go travel due to COVID-19 pandemic lockdowns, we are now ready to re-embrace Christmas and New Year with our families and friends. It’s time to meet them and celebrate the holidays with cheers. But air travel should not be chaotic. Here are a few friendly reminders to make the travel experience for everyJuan less stressful this holiday season:

Be On Time at the Airport, Beat the Road Traffic

Cebu Pacific and Cebgo passengers must allot time for traffic going to the airport. Passengers must be at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 3 and 4 at least three (2) hours before departure for domestic flights, and three (3) hours for international flights. Passengers traveling to Dubai are allowed to check in as early as seven (7) hours before departure.

Check in Online

Long lines may be avoided at the airport by checking in via the official CEB mobile app or via the Manage Booking section of the CEB website. Both options are available from seven (7) days up to one (1) hour before scheduled time of departure for domestic flights; and up to four (4) hours before scheduled departure for international fliers.

Check Flight Information

All check-in counters close one (1) hour before the scheduled time of departure to ensure there is ample time for all necessary pre-flight procedures. We encourage passengers to immediately proceed to their respective boarding gates. Boarding commences 45 minutes before the scheduled departure.

Updated flight information may be viewed at https://www.cebupacificair.com/flight-status

Self-Tag Luggage for Select Domestic Destinations

Guests flying out of select domestic destinations (Manila, Davao, Clark, Cagayan de Oro, General Santos, Bohol, Iloilo, and Zamboanga) are reminded to self-tag their check-in luggage prior to proceeding to counters for bag drops, in line with the airline’s contactless flight procedures.

Single Hand Carry and Exemptions

Passengers must bring only one carry-on bag for a more convenient flight experience. The carry-on bag must not exceed 7kg in weight and can fit in the overhead bins or under the seat.

CEB has exempted items that are allowed to be carried aside of the single handcarried bag:

·       Gadgets or food items that cannot be checked-in;

·       Items purchased inside the airport (requires proof of receipt);

·       Assistive or medical items such as walking canes, foldable walkers;

·       Baby food and necessities for passengers traveling with infants;

·       Or a small bag that can fit under the seat

Checked Baggage Policy

Passengers are encouraged to purchase prepaid baggage with their tickets during initial booking on the CEB website and mobile app. CEB has implemented a per piece baggage policy which applies to all passengers with checked baggage. A passenger may choose either a 20kg or a 32kg check-in baggage, or a maximum of the (2) two options.

Any excess in size, weight and pieces are subject to oversized baggage fee, excess baggage fee and/or extra Bag Fee.

Check The Airport Terminal Assignment of Your Flight

Passengers must check their itineraries and boarding passes before proceeding to their designated airport terminal. Cebu Pacific’s 5J flights arrive at and depart from the NAIA Terminal 3, while Cebgo (DG) flights to and from Manila operate from the NAIA Terminal 4 at Domestic Road, Pasay City.

Bring a copy of your LGU vaccination card for domestic, and VaxCertPH for international travel

Travel documents requirements may change from time to time, without prior notice.  We recommend all guests to continue checking relevant travel advisories to prepare for their flight. Passengers may also refer to http://bit.ly/CEBTravelRequirements for more information.

Guests must also update contact details on their bookings so they will be notified of pre-flight reminders and flight changes.

Pack your patience and keep your cool.

It is frustrating when hassles happen at the airport or on your flight. Stay calm and have a positive perspective. It’s Christmas, after all! Keep your stress response under control and maintain that joyful attitude. Cebu Pacific on-ground personnel will assist you. CEB continues to implement a multi-layered approach to safety while it operates with a 100% fully vaccinated crew, 95% of whom have been boosted – all to ensure everyJuan flies safely and conveniently on Cebu Pacific. Visit www.cebupacificair.com for more information.

Travel | Cebu Pacific Resumes More Davao and Cebu Flights

More travel destinations are resuming flights from Davao and Cebu hubs of Cebu Pacific! Davao will be reconnected with Bacolod and Cagayan de Oro City. Also, Cebu will be reconnected to more destinations in the country.

So, here's the story of this development in the tourism sector:

Cebu Pacific ramps up VisMin flight network by 35%
Resumes flights from Davao to Bacolod and Cagayan de Oro

The Philippines’ leading airline, Cebu Pacific (PSE: CEB), strengthens its footprint in the Visayas and Mindanao as it adds more flights from its Davao and Cebu hubs effective November 2022. This totals a 35% increase in the airline’s non-Manila flight network.

On October 30 and 31 respectively, CEB will be resuming its direct flights from Davao to Cagayan de Oro and Bacolod, allowing Juans in Mindanao to connect easily to more places across the country. Davao-Bacolod will be operating 3x weekly, every Monday, Wednesday and Friday; while Davao-Cagayan de Oro will be at 4x weekly, every Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday, and Sunday.

These additional flights bring the total number of domestic connections from Davao to seven (7), which includes direct flights to Bohol, Cebu, Iloilo, Manila, and Zamboanga.

The airline will also be restarting its first international flight from Davao on October 30 as it will fly passengers direct to Singapore. CEB is the first local airline to bring back direct international operations in Davao.

CEB also continues to boost its connections from its Cebu hub as it expects to add more flights to key domestic destinations in November. This includes flights to Bacolod, Butuan, Cagayan de Oro, Iloilo, General Santos, and Puerto Princesa, among others.

CEB currently flies direct to 22 domestic destinations from Cebu, and two (2) international, namely Singapore and Seoul (Incheon).

“We are very happy to share this good news with everyJuan as we continuously see a sustained confidence among the traveling public. As we approach the holiday season, we expect more people wanting to fly and come back home, thus we made sure we are more than ready with additional flight connections,” said Xander Lao, CEB Chief Commercial Officer.

Travel | Cebu Pacific restores international flights from Davao

One of my favorite countries is Singapore! Almost every year, I visit this island-country and spend some time with family or with my best friend. With this return of international flights from Davao City, I am giggling to travel back to Singapore!

Here's the story of this update:

Cebu Pacific restores international flights from Davao
To resume Davao-Singapore flights in October

The Philippines’ leading airline, Cebu Pacific (PSE: CEB), continues to beef up its regional footprint as it announces the resumption of its international operations in its Davao hub, starting with direct flights to Singapore. CEB is the first local carrier to restart international flights from Davao since the pandemic.

On October 30, 2022, CEB will begin operating three times a week from Davao to Singapore, every Tuesday, Thursday, and Sunday. Flight 5J 715 is scheduled to depart Francisco Bangoy International Airport at 5:15PM, and is set to arrive at Singapore Changi Airport Terminal 4 at 9:10PM. Its return flight, 5J 716, is scheduled to leave Singapore at 9:55PM, and is estimated to arrive in Davao at 1:40AM the next day.

This is the first international route that the airline is restarting from Davao, in line with its move to expand hubs outside Metro Manila.

“We are very excited to bring back this route as we know passengers in Mindanao have been waiting for more affordable and convenient flight options to fly abroad. Now that we’ve strengthened our operations from Manila, it’s time we move forward to growing our regional hubs as we work toward restoring 100% of our pre-pandemic capacity in the coming months,” said Xander Lao, CEB Chief Commercial Officer.

Fully vaccinated guests entering Singapore are not required to submit a pre-departure COVID-19 test and are not required to undergo quarantine upon arrival. They must instead present their proof of full vaccination (VaxCertPH or BOQ Yellow Card), and fill out a Singapore Arrival card three (3) days before arrival.

Coming home to Davao, boosted Filipinos no longer need to take a COVID test pre-departure. For more information, passengers may refer to CEB Travel reminders page for the latest updates and complete travel guidelines to their destination.

CEB continues to offer its guaranteed low fares to stimulate travel across its widest domestic network in the Philippines. It continues to implement a multi-layered approach to safety, while it operates with a 100% fully vaccinated crew, 95% of whom have been boosted – all to ensure every Juan flies safely and conveniently on Cebu Pacific.
